article by Adam SchusterThe “Black Panther” franchise, which will see the return of Dwayne Johnson as the titular superhero, will begin with the “Avengers” sequel.
In the latest episode of the series, “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the film opens with an epic battle between the Avengers and the Mandarin (Jai Courtney).
The Avengers are fighting a race of superpowered super-villains, known as the Mandarin, led by Thanos (Michael B. Jordan), the ruler of the universe.
The Mandarin has been recruiting the Avengers into his schemes to dominate the Marvel Universe, and the Avengers must stop him before they are wiped out.
The series’ next episode, “Civil War,” will feature Thanos again, this time as his newest threat.
“I’ve always thought the Avengers had this weird, weird combination of superpowers, super-human abilities and, oh, you know, the fact that there’s a lot of superheroes in this universe,” director Joe Johnston told The Hollywood Reporter.
“And it’s a very interesting thing because you can sort of play with all of that.
The question was, how do you take those elements and make them work in the movie?”
The Avengers will face their biggest test yet when the Mandarin is revealed as a threat to the universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Johnson’s character, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is not averse to going toe-to-toe with superpowers and has a reputation for being a capable, hard-nosed soldier.
In addition to playing the Mandarin in the first film, Johnson has also been featured in a handful of Marvel movies, including “Captain America: Civil War,” “Captain Marvel,” “The Defenders” and “Black Widow.”
He will be the first major superhero to join the Avengers in the third installment of the franchise.
“The first time I did a scene with Dwayne, he just came right out and said, ‘I don’t want to fight the Mandarin,'” Johnson said of filming the scene in the film’s opening credits.
“He just went and said it and it was just so, so, perfect.”
When asked if he considered the role of the Mandarin a “dream” for him, Johnson said he would have liked to have taken on the role.
“I’ve never really considered it a dream, but it’s been something that’s been on my bucket list for a long time, and I was just really excited to get the chance to play it.
It was a great opportunity.”
Johnson’s “Aging Avengers” character, the Mandarin was originally a villain of sorts for the Avengers, who were formed after the deaths of the Fantastic Four in the 1980s.
In a 2012 interview with MTV News, actor Jeremy Renner said the Mandarin had a “big mouth and a big body,” and he was “very, very much like, a big villain.”
The character, which originated as a villain in the comics and later made its way into the “Marvel Cinematic Universe,” was a staple of the “Black Hood” arc of the first “Aged Avengers” film.
Johnson’s character’s appearance in the “Age of Ultron” film is a bit different from that of the character in the comic books, but the director said that the Mandarin will be more of a part of the Marvel cinematic universe in “Civil Wars.”
“The Mandarin has always been a major threat in the Marvel universe,” Johnston said.
“We have seen the Mandarin take control of various different factions.
The thing is, he is now the villain, and he is a threat.
So it is going to be an interesting conflict.
But the question is, will we be able to make him a threat or will he be one of those little things that we take away from?”
While Johnson’s role as the “Rock” Johnson in “Black Panthers” was one of the most notable parts of the film, the director also felt it was important to give the character more depth and personality.
“It’s not a super-powered guy,” Johnston explained.
“It’s a guy who has the ability to be a warrior.
He’s also a warrior in his own right, so he’s not super-powerful, but he is definitely very much in the mindset of what it is to be the leader of the free world.
So, it was a lot about the fact he’s a leader, but also that he has a sense of honor, and also a sense that he’s also trying to protect his people.
He also has a deep love of his people, and there’s an understanding of the importance of a family.”
While Johnson is not the first black actor to play the role, he was the first African American actor to do so on the big screen.
“When I first saw the script, I just thought, I’m really into that character,” Johnson said.
